Jeanette Shartle began volunteering at Guardian Angels about one year ago. She chose to volunteer at Guardian Angels because her Mother was a staff member here from 1972 until she became ill and could not work anymore. Both of her Grandparents, Melvin and Ruby Westberg were residents here.
Jeanette’s schedule varies but still manages to volunteer on the average of 3 hours per week. While here she assists residents and supports staff with exercises, baking class, serves at special lunch and any other activity where she is needed and that she has time for.
The residents look forward to her presence here, she is energetic, patient, dedicated and devoted to the residents. Unlike baking and assisting the residents in measuring ingredients, the impact that she makes is immeasurable!
Jeanette’s favorite part about volunteering is working with and visiting the residents, they all have stories to share!
When Jeanette isn’t volunteering here she is assisting others with gardening, researching her family history, Amateur Ham Radio Emergency Services , SkyWarn Watch, loom knitting and embroidery.

Volunteers are very important at Guardian Angels Care Center! It is important for potential volunteers to take time to think about working with the senior population in a Skilled Nursing Facility. A time commitment is an essential part of volunteering, dependability and consistency is required. We want to make sure your placement is rewarding for you as well as the resident.
Guardian Angels Care Center Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers are matched with the opportunity that is best suited for them and the needs of the Guardian Angels residents. Each volunteer that would like to volunteer at GACC, must complete an application stating their desired areas of volunteering and availability. Each volunteer applicant will be interviewed for open positions that meet the needs of the volunteer and Guardian Angels. If accepted as a volunteer, a 2 hour orientation that includes information on residents ‘ rights, safety procedures, privacy practices, volunteer conduct and commitment is needed before volunteering takes place. A background check is also completed with each volunteer before being scheduled. Training is provided to make each volunteer comfortable and excited to be at Guardian Angels Care Center.
